I may not have had a dog growing up, but there were always signs I’d be a Dog Person. Like my collection of purebred plush puppies that expanded every time I made a trip to Toys R Us. And telling my preschool teacher I wanted to be a vet or a dog breeder. And curling up with my aunt’s two poodles to watch the National Dog Show on Thanksgiving.
That’s why, when I was 23 years old, I decided to make my childhood dream a reality. After researching Welsh Terriers and reputable breeders, I came across Keith Bailey of the prestigious Bayleigh Welsh Terriers. Keith happened to have a budding 9-month-old show prospect without a home, and trusted this newbie with the best first dog I could ever ask for.
What started as a hobby quickly turned into my entire life — I dove headfirst into the world of purebred dogs. In the show ring, Juni and I finished her championship, became top-ranked competitors in the National Owner-Handled Series, and even earned an NOHS Best in Show. As a team, we have earned her 15 titles for obedience, sports, and purpose-bred work. And outside the ring, Juni has represented the Welsh Terrier on national and regional news programs, as well as in print and commercial advertising campaigns.
I have also come a long way in just four years. I have been elected to the Board of both the Welsh Terrier Club of America and the Garden State All Terrier Club. I have served as a Breed Education Representative at the AKC Museum of the Dog, and participate in AKC Meet the Breeds every year (this will be my fourth!). I began judges’ education for the Terrier Group, completing the required Canine College exams, watching all available judges’ education webinars, and receiving one-on-one ringside mentorship for individual breeds. I have judged two Terrier Group match assignments and several Junior Showmanship competitions. I am also currently pursuing my professional dog training certification through CATCH.
While other breeders can boast decades of experience and accolades, I am just at the beginning. However, as one of the youngest (and possibly THE youngest) person in my position, with my current accomplishments, I represent the future of our breed. I am at the start of a lifelong commitment to preserving the best form of the Welsh Terrier. I title my dogs in the show ring to prove their conformation to the breed standard, and health test to make sure their genetics back it up. I train my dogs in both basic companion foundations and advanced obedience work to make sure their temperaments make for perfect pets. I constantly seek mentorship from breeders, judges, trainers and fellow dog lovers to ever improve what I do for my dogs.
Adding a Wyldeflower Welsh Terrier puppy to your family won’t just be a one-time transaction. I’ll always be happy to help with training, grooming, health questions, even showing dogs yourself. I am committed to making this relationship between breeder and puppy parent last the lifetime of your pup… and hopefully, even longer.
